What is Outdoor Adventure Out-trip Specialty Camp?

This adventure specialty camp is designed to teach outdoor no-trace camping survival skills and put them into practice on a two-night camping trip in the forests of the Maitland Valley under the guidance of our experienced out-trip staff. This specialty camp is running twice this summer, during Week 2, and Week 3 as part of our Menesetung Pride Week adventure. To give you an idea of what kind of experience this is, this is what our adventurer's did for each of our OLS Out-trip weeks last summer:

  A group of campers (12 campers + 3 staff) spent Monday & Tuesday mornings learning essential outdoor living skills such as: How to pitch a tent, how to build a fire, how to pack a backpack, how to prepare and preserve hiking food, how to purify water, no-trace camping etiquette, etc. On Tuesday afternoon the group loaded up their gear and were chauffeured in van taxis (with staff) to their drop off point at the beautiful Falls Reserve Conservation Area where they began their 4K hike through the trails along the Maitland river to their campsite. The group set up camp (tents, hammocks, campfire etc.) on a raised hill in the midst of a cedar grove (almost no bugs!) overlooking the forest floor. The group used this campsite as their home base for the two-night/three-day adventure making many day-trips to explore and learn about the natural world around them, with lots of flexibility and choice as the group survived and thrived. Thursday after breakfast the group broke camp and hiked 2K to their exit point to rejoin the rest of the camp on-site for Lunch!

Choosing Out-trip Specialty is a choice to engage with the outdoor world in a fun and memorable way. Once this group sets up camp, programming is more free from structure providing the opportunity for personal discovery and reflection. All Out-trip Specialty campers will still have the opportunity to experience our other programming at Camp (Pool, Archery, Climbing Wall, Arts & Crafts, Music & Drama, Low Ropes etc.) for the full camp experience!

Important Note: Out-trip specialty camps have an additional special packing list for the out-trip - click HERE to view. Campers can rent an ‘Out-trip Gear Kit’ from us which includes a camping backpack, sleeping pad, and dishkit.
